McCoy was a first-team all-state selection at defensive end in his senior season. On the year, he tallied 96 tackles including 14 tackles-for-loss and 9 sacks. He also added four interceptions, returning three for touchdowns. An all-region performer on offense, McCoy totaled almost 900 yards with 12 scores.
McCoy averaged around 30 yards per catch and totaled 800 yards receiving and nine touchdowns his junior season. A starter at outside linebacker as well, he made seven sacks and had two interceptions. He helped Amherst to a Group AA, Division 4 state championship.
Head coach Scott Abell: "I think schools are recruiting him more as an athlete. Coming out of his sophomore year, people were recruiting him as a wide receiver. He has come so far in terms of his physical ability to play the game. I think his stock really rose this year because of the way he played defense. He could play wide receiver on the next level because of his physical tools. He could play linebacker. He could even be a defensive end. He is one of those kids who you see and you think is going to be huge."
