A left tackle for Maury, Painter earned AP Group AAA first-team all-state honors for his junior season performance. He is considered one of the top overall prospects in the state for the '08 class.

For his senior season performance, Painter earned first-team all-Tidewater and first-team all-Eastern district honors.

Maury Head Coach Dealton Cotton: “For his size, he is very athletic and he runs real well. And he has a mission. He wasn’t a good football player coming in, but he has built himself up to be very dominant. He is a kid who continues to get better. He’s still really a baby to football.”
