A dual-threat quarterback, Taylor rushed for 1,044 yards and 21 touchdowns as a junior last season. He had around 2,500 total yards and 32 total touchdowns, leading Hampton to its 17th state championship title.

For his junior year performance, Taylor earned VHSCA and AP (at the Utility position) first-team all-state honors.

Taylor earned a spot in the 2006 Nike Elite 11 quarterbacks camp.
