Thorns is a two-time all-state performer. In his senior season, he averaged 27.7 points, 12.5 rebounds, and over 6.6 assists and 3.7 steals per game. As a junior, he posted averages of 21.7 points, 6.5 boards, 7.5 assists, and 2.5 steals per game.

Dinos Trigonis, director of the Pangos All-American Camp, describes Thorns as "a BJ Armstrong-type guard who is an exceptional athlete for his size, as well as having very good scoring skills."
