Viegas chose Virginia Tech when Miami decided not to offer him a scholarship. He was 20 years old when he arrived at Tech as a freshman, and was a member of the 22-and-under Brazilian National Team.
He never worked his way into the lineup for the Hokies, and transferred to Florida International.
