Roberts was considered an immediate impact player when he entered Virginia Tech. He averaged 14 points, 11 rebounds and 6.5 blocks per game during his senior season at Potomac High School.
Roberts was a very good front court player for the Hokies. He could score down low, and he could block shots on the defensive end. Unfortunately, his Tech career came to an end one year early. He transferred to Southern Illinois for his senior season, became a star for the Salukis, and led them to the Sweet 16.
