Quarterback Recruiting Reaching a Critical Point
December 17, 2008
Key quarterback recruit Kevin Newsome chose Penn State over Virginia Tech on Tuesday. Individually it's not a huge loss, but when you combine Newsome with all of the other quarterbacks the Hokies have missed out on the last two years, it really hurts.

More Practice, More Focus: Hokies Prepare for the Orange Bowl
December 11, 2008
Following the Orange Bowl loss to Kansas, the hot topic of debate was whether or not the Hokies prepared for the game as much as they should have during the month of December. The obvious answer was "no". This year, Tech seems to be taking the bowl game more seriously than a year ago, and everyone is hoping it results in a different outcome.

Postseason Check-in: DE James Gayle
December 11, 2008
After not starting on the junior varsity level in either his freshman or sophomore seasons, James Gayle hoped things would change upon reaching the varsity level last season as a junior. 2008 ACC Championship Game Analysis: Gameplan Works to Perfection
December 10, 2008
The Hokies sure picked the right time to play their most complete game of the year. A young inexperienced group of players had worked all season to get better, but they had not put it all together in any one game. It happened on Saturday. Easily playing their best football of the season, the Hokies rocked Boston College with a couple of left hooks and a right cross to pull away to a 30-12 victory and their second consecutive ACC Championship. The Hokies will return to the Orange Bowl with a lot of confidence, a different attitude and the opportunity to register 10 wins for the fifth season in a row.

Virginia Tech recruit James Hopper jump started Seventy-First High School's (Fayetteville, N.C.) run to the Class 4A state championship game, scoring the only two scores in a 14-0 regional quarterfinal win over #1 seed Mount Tabor High School. The 5-10, 180-pound senior defensive back/running back got the job done on both sides of the ball in the win, scoring on a 3-yard touchdown run in the first half and returning an interception 80 yards for the game's only second half score.

December 5, 2008
In the "Déjà vu Bowl" Virginia Tech will once again meet the Boston College Eagles for the ACC Championship. The Hokies and Eagles have met in four of the last 22 games, so obviously both teams know each other extremely well. However, each team has some differences from the 28-23 game played on October 18 which could affect the outcome. Will the resurgent Hokies win their second straight ACC championship, or will BC gain revenge on last year's loss and win their first ACC title?

2008 Virginia Game Analysis: Defensive Adjustments and Ball Control Offense Key Big Win
December 2, 2008
Another Tech / UVa game is in the books and the Commonwealth Cup stays in Blacksburg. This one was a little strange, a little dicey, but fun to watch. Five different players took snaps at the QB position and none of that switching around was due to injury. Strange indeed. In the end, it was the Hokies who prevailed and the win vaulted them into the ACC Championship game for the third time in the last four years.
