LB/S Travis Williams Updates Recruitment

Lake Taylor (Norfolk, VA) linebacker/safety Travis Williams has totaled 17 scholarship offers so far, with Miami and Michigan being the most recent 1A programs to extend official offers. The offer from the Hurricanes appears significant, though the 6-2, 200-pound Williams is not in any hurry to commit.

TSL's Pre-Summer Top 30

A class I consider to be one of the best in the state of Virginia's history, the 2009 class featured outstanding depth. The 2010 class doesn't measure up to last year's group in terms of depth, but there are high quality talents in the Top 30, including an especially large group of talented linemen.

A Look Ahead to Alabama: The Front Seven

Virginia Tech will face a very big and very talented defensive front when they line up against Alabama on September 5. The Tide will be a tough team to block. Fortunately for the Hokies, they have experience playing against a defensive front seven that schemes in a similar way to Alabama.

Top In-State Linemen Update Recruiting

While most of the state's top 2010 class offensive line prospects have already committed, two notables - Deep Run (Glen Allen, VA) offensive tackle Conner Davis and Lake Braddock (Burke, VA) offensive tackle Khamrone Kolb - have yet to commit. That could change by the end of summer, though, as each prospect is at least considering ending the recruiting process within the next couple of months.

VT Solidifies Position with Dew

Virginia Tech scored a top commitment last weekend in defensive end Zack McCray and was hoping to score another top defender this weekend, when 6-2, 195-pound Nick Dew visited Blacksburg. The Hokies didn't get a commitment from the First Colonial (Virginia Beach, VA) star, but the weekend still proved to be a success.

Dew Set to Visit VT

Accompanied by his mother and younger brother, First Colonial (Virginia Beach, VA) star safety/linebacker prospect Nick Dew will head to Virginia Tech this weekend for an unofficial visit. The 6-2, 195-pound rising senior told TechSideline.com that he plans to arrive in Blacksburg this evening and may stay until Sunday morning.

Having earned and accepted an offer from Virginia Tech already, the 6-2, 205-pound rising senior simply enjoyed the day alongside his brother Nubian, who will be a freshman wide receiver for the Hokies this upcoming season.

Looking on as Virginia Tech's first senior camp came to an end, Brookville (Lynchburg, VA) defensive end prospect Zack McCray looked relaxed. The 6-5, 235-pound rising senior, who was sporting a Virginia Tech hat, shirt, and shorts, was excited and relieved with the verbal commitment he made to the Tech coaches earlier in the day.

Virginia Tech is one of the 10 finalists for the 6-2 1/2, 215-pound rising senior defensive end/linebacker, who has totaled 22 sacks over the past two seasons at Manheim Central High School (Manheim, PA).

Incoming Freshman DE Reflects on Recruitment

Boston College, Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, N.C. State, Penn State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia. Brooke Point (Stafford, VA) defensive end Lanford Collins certainly had a large selection of schools to choose from, but after making official visits to four schools the 6-4, 240-pound senior chose Virginia Tech. A month before he is to arrive in Blacksburg, Collins took time to reflect on his recruitment and look ahead to his first year at Virginia Tech.

Farris Talks Enrollment Plans, Nike Performance

The fact that Rockbridge (Lexington, VA) offensive lineman Caleb Farris committed to Virginia Tech during its Spring Game didn't come as a surprise to many. What did come as a surprise, however, was learning that the 6-4, 300-pound rising senior, one of the top offensive line prospects in the state of Virginia's 2010 class, plans to enroll at Tech in January of 2011.

Virginia Tech has had success in recruiting central Virginia's Dominion district over the past several years, scoring former Manchester star defensive lineman Khalil Latif and Clover Hill offensive lineman Blake DeChristopher in the 2007 class. Tech has offered another Dominion district lineman in the 2010 class, this time heading to Midlothian High School.

NC DE Rising on the Recruiting Scene

Norwood (N.C.) South Stanly defensive end Justin Taylor looked raw at this past Saturday’s invite-only combine held at Eastern Alamance High School in Mebane (N.C.); however, that’s understandable considering he doesn’t have a lot of experience working out at combines. In fact, the 2009 season will be just his second as a football player after focusing almost exclusively on basketball.

Davis Sees Decision Coming this Summer

Deep Run (Glen Allen, VA) first-team all-district offensive tackle Conner Davis has always indicated a preference to commit before the beginning of his senior year, but he has also said he would only do so if he has zero doubts. The 6-5, 270-pound rising senior now seems more confident that a decision will indeed come sooner rather than later.
