2009 Spring Football: Hokies Appear Loaded, but Questions Remain March 30, 2009 Another spring of football begins on Wednesday, and this spring is a bit different from last year. Heading into last season, the Hokies had a quarterback controversy, no wide receivers, new linebackers and no depth on the defensive line, not to mention question marks on the offensive line. Things look much better this year, but some situations still need to be addressed this spring. more
Big-Time Athlete Visits VT March 30, 2009 Virginia Tech was one of three ACC stops last week for Old Mill (Millersville, MD) standout athlete Josh Furman, who also visited Duke and North Carolina. The 6-1 1/2, 195-pound junior had never visited Virginia Tech before, but he did have some interest in the program prior to last week's experience. more
2009 Spring Practice Preview: Defensive Backs March 27, 2009 Virginia Tech lost yet another All-American cornerback in Macho Harris, and there will be a competition for his replacement this spring. Overall, the Hokies are in pretty good shape with depth in their secondary. Five different players have starting experience, and as usual, there is young talent waiting in the wings. more
Forbes Earns VT Offer, Plans to Visit March 27, 2009 Virginia Tech is the most recent program to extend an official offer to 6-1, 225-pound linebacker Nick Forbes, a talented rising senior out of Thomas Johnson High School in Frederick, Maryland. Forbes admittedly was surprised by the Tech offer, but he was excited about it all the same.

Mark Shuman Talks Recruiting March 27, 2009 Fork Union Prep (Fork Union, VA) offensive tackle Mark Shuman does not appear close to making a verbal commitment, and the 6-6, 270-pound junior plans to take his time in the recruiting process. Shuman, who has 16 official offers including Georgia, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Virginia and Virginia Tech, among others, admits to having a favorite but isn't ruling anyone out just yet. more
Florida QB Names a Favorite March 26, 2009 Virginia Tech scored a surprise commitment from cornerback Jayron Hosley in the 2009 class, and the Hokies are looking for more success out of Atlantic Community (Delray Beach, FL) in the 2010 class. Tech offered wide receiver James Louis earlier in the process and, just last Wednesday, extended an offer to a second Atlantic recruit in quarterback Mark Leal. The 6-1, 180-pound signal caller is certainly pleased with the offer. more
2009 Spring Practice Preview: Linebackers March 25, 2009 Virginia Tech lost two quality starters at inside linebacker after the Orange Bowl, and they will be replacing them from a pool of very young players. The mike and backer spots will be the focus for Bud Foster this spring, while Jim Cavanaugh will try and figure out who his whip linebacker of the future might be. more
Hokies Offer Atlantic QB March 25, 2009 Interest is heating up for Atlantic Community (Delray Beach, FL) quarterback Mark Leal, who has received five official offers with two more on the way. Virginia Tech has officially offered the 6-1, 185-pound prospect, who threw for 1,785 yards and 17 touchdowns last season as a junior. more
Deep Run Star Bides Time March 24, 2009 Deep Run (Glen Allen, VA) offensive tackle Conner Davis has six Division 1A offers, including Boston College, Duke, Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech and West Virginia. The 6-5, 270-pound junior believes that the Evaluation Period could be busy, as the number of schools expressing interest continues to grow. more

All-State ATH with One Offer March 20, 2009 Meadowbrook (Richmond, VA) star Desmond Coble turned in an outstanding junior season, earning AP Group AAA first-team all-state honors in leading the Monarchs to another playoff appearance. Coble, a 5-11, 180-pound prospect who ran a hand-timed sub-4.5 40 at a Central Virginia combine in December, was an all everything performer on offense, throwing for 1,553 yards and 16 scores and rushing for 1,082 yards with 12 scores. more

He has mailed his junior video to five schools and each of the five has responded with an official offer. The 6-1, 170-pound prospect certainly hopes for similar results as the recruiting process heads into spring. more

Offer Profile: CB Kyle Fuller March 11, 2009 Current Tennessee Titans safety Vincent Fuller II enjoyed a successful career at Virginia Tech, amassing 142 tackles, 19 pass deflections and eight interceptions in 50 games of action. Fuller graduated from Virginia Tech in 2005 and, four years later, the Tech staff is looking to dip back into the Fuller family for another talented defensive back. Kyle Fuller, a 6-1, 165-pound cornerback recruit and Vincent's younger brother, has received an official offer from the Hokies. more
VT One of 11 Offers for Zwinak March 10, 2009 As a fullback, Linganore (Frederick, MD) running back Zack Zwinak had 133 carries for 1,447 yards last season as a junior, establishing his presence not only as a top high school football performer but also as one of the top rising seniors in the state of Maryland. The 6-1, 225-pound prospect picked up an offer from Maryland following his junior season and 10 more Division 1A programs have since followed suit. more

VT "Prospect Day" a Success March 6, 2009 Although there were no immediate commitments, Virginia Tech's "Prospect Day" appears to have been a success. Tech hosted a number of top rising senior prospects and even a few top rising juniors, including Hermitage (Richmond, VA) LB Curtis Grant and South County (Lorton, VA) S/WR Ronnie Van Dyke. There is no question that the primary focus, though, was on a talented group of 2010 class visitors.
