Scrimmage Report: Clayton Takes a Step Forward

In the final full scrimmage before the Spring Game, the Virginia Tech offense made big plays, while Ju-Ju Clayton took a step forward in his quest to become Tech's backup quarterback. The Hokies also suffered injuries on both sides of the ball.

Zack McCray Talks Recruiting

Brookville (Lynchburg, VA) defensive end Zack McCray continues to enjoy success on the recruiting trail, recently receiving official offers number 12 and 13 from South Carolina and UCLA, respectively. The 6-5, 235-pound junior indicated that Clemson could become offer #14 soon and added that Southern Cal has expressed serious interest.

Top LB Discusses Monday's Visit

Thomas Johnson (Frederick, MD) linebacker Nick Forbes visited Virginia Tech on Monday, arriving at noon to take a tour of the campus, meet the coaches and take in a spring practice. The 6-1, 210-pound junior reflected on the trip and discussed where Virginia Tech now stands in the race for his commitment.

A Look Ahead to Alabama: The Quarterbacks

Virginia Tech has a huge football game on September 5 against Alabama in the Georgia Dome. This will be the most hyped college football game during the offseason, and ESPN will cover it heavily in the days leading up to the event. Both teams will likely be in the preseason Top 10, and the Crimson Tide could even begin the year in the Top 5. It's never too early to start previewing such a big game, and today we'll take a look at Alabama's quarterback situation.

ACC Programs High on Marshall's List

5-11, 170-pound junior cornerback A.J. Marshall is now up to 10 written scholarship offers, with Syracuse, Tennessee and West Virginia being the most recent schools to mail the paperwork. Marshall, a star prospect out of Southern High School in Durham, North Carolina, currently favors three of those 10 programs.

Spring Practice Update

Eight practices are in the books, and seven remain, including the spring game. Less than two weeks of spring practice are left, and we are starting to get an idea of how certain position battles are going to shake out. Offer Profile: DE Kareem Martin

Prior to the 2007 season, Roanoke Rapids (N.C.) head coach Russell Weinstein envisioned Kareem Martin as a wide receiver. It didn't take long for Martin to impress on the defensive side of the ball, though, and now the 6-6, 220-pound junior has become one of the top defensive prospects in the state of North Carolina's 2010 class.

Farris Scores Big Offer

Rockbridge County (Lexington, VA) offensive lineman Caleb Farris picked up a big-time offer last Tuesday, when Virginia Tech became the third Division 1A program to offer the 6-4, 300-pound junior. Farris, who also has offers from East Carolina and Marshall, learned of the news in interesting fashion.

Scrimmage Report: Williams Flashes Big Play Ability

The Hokies held their first full scrimmage of the spring in Lane Stadium on Friday, and things went as expected. The first team offense handled the second team defense, while the starting defenders dominated the reserve offensive players. The young backup quarterbacks showed they have a ways to go, while Ryan Williams provided the big plays on offense that we've been hearing about for so long.

Wilson Ready to Compete for Playing Time

George Washington High School (Danville, VA) product David Wilson, one of Virginia Tech's top recruits in the 2009 recruiting class, is not opposed to red-shirting this upcoming season, but that is far from what he wants to do. The 5-11 running back has his sights set on significant playing time as a true freshman.

Dew Selected for All-American Game

First Colonial (Virginia Beach, VA) safety prospect Nick Dew didn't believe it when he heard the news. Last week, the 6-2, 195-pound junior learned that he had been selected to play in the Under Armour All-American game set for next January. Dew was cautious at first, but caution quickly turned to excitement.

Ocean Lakes' Talented Tandem

By now, high school football fans in the state of Virginia should already know quite a bit about 6-4, 180-pound rising senior wide receiver Justin Hunter. One of the top wide receiver prospects in the 2010 class, the Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, VA) star has accumulated official scholarship offers from programs throughout the nation. The player passing the ball to Hunter - sophomore Lafonte Thoroughgood - is gaining recognition as well and could also be high on Division 1A wish lists should he continue to progress.

Sixth Offer for FUMA's Bodine

The University of Virginia became the sixth school to officially offer Fork Union Military Academy prep standout Russell Bodine, who met with Cavaliers head coach Al Groh earlier this evening. Duke, Marshall, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Wake Forest have also offered the 6-4, 285-pound junior offensive lineman, who commented on the offer he picked up just hours ago.

Bolles (Jacksonville, FL) offensive tackle Brent Benedict earned Class 2A first-team all-state and EA Sports All-American honors for his junior season performance. With 37 official scholarship offers to his credit, including offers from some of the top programs in the nation, Benedict has certainly been recognized by Division 1A college coaches as well.

Ocean Lakes WR a National Recruit

6-4, 180-pound wide receiver Justin Hunter, a star junior out of Ocean Lakes High School (Virginia Beach, VA), has become a true national recruit in recent months, having earned official offers from Alabama, Florida and LSU, among others, and drawing interest from Southern Cal. He has also accepted an invitation to play in the Under Armour All-American game next January. Through it all, Hunter has kept grounded.

It has been about a month since 6-6, 300-pound Lake Braddock (Burke, VA) junior Khamrone Kolb suffered a torn ACL while playing basketball. The standout offensive tackle prospect is doing well these days and has been encouraged by the progress he has made with his recovery.
