Hargrave Notes: Norman Says He Has Qualified November 19, 2009 Hargrave Military Academy's postgraduate squad escaped Fork Union today with a 6-0 win. Following the game, Virginia Tech recruits Theron Norman and DeAntre Rhodes took some time to reflect on the experience at Hargrave and to update their situations in terms of enrolling at Virginia Tech in January. more
Keys to the Game and Matchups to Watch: NC State November 19, 2009 The Hokies host the enigmatic Wolfpack of North Carolina State this Saturday in the final home game of the season. Virginia Tech (7-3, 4-2 ACC) will honor a senior group that will be trying to achieve a 10-win season in each of their seasons in Blacksburg. N.C. State (4-6, 1-5 ACC), on the other hand, will simply be playing for pride after high expectations coming into the season. Will the Hokies remain focused against a team with nothing to lose? more
Standout Junior Hoping for VT Offer This Weekend November 19, 2009 Former Kempsville (Virginia Beach, VA) standout Trenton Hughes signed with the University of Maryland in February of 2007 and is now a red-shirt sophomore defensive back for the Terrapins. Travis Hughes, a 6-1, 215-pound running back/linebacker, has the opportunity to follow in his brother's footsteps and play college football. Travis, a junior, starred at Kempsville this season and has earned two official FBS offers to date. more
Football Game Preview: #15 Virginia Tech vs. NC State November 18, 2009 Presented by Kent Square Condominiums: Virginia Tech still has hopes to win 10 games for the sixth consecutive season, but a loss to NC State this Saturday would end those hopes. The Hokies are better than the Wolfpack, and they are the rightful home favorite. However, there are matchups in this game that should concern Tech fans. more
FBS Programs Pursue T.C. Williams Lineman November 18, 2009 T.C. Williams (Alexandria, VA) went 5-5 this season, narrowly missing out on the school's first playoff berth since 1990. Head coach Dennis Randolph will return some talented players next season, led by highly recruited junior offensive/defensive lineman Jay Whitmire. more
Maryland Game Analysis: RH Takes Your Questions November 17, 2009 Things are pretty bad these days for Ralph Friedgen and the Maryland football program. Youth, inexperience, injuries and a general lack of depth have left Friedgen in the cross-hairs with the vultures circling in College Park. The Terps are not a very good team right now. And the Hokies took advantage of all those weaknesses to put the Terps away by halftime. After three weeks of spotty play, the Hokies needed to take care of business ... and they did. The offense piled up the yards and put up its most points in four games and the defense held an opponent out of the end zone for the second week in a row. more
Dinwiddie Junior QB Delivering Solid Season November 17, 2009 Dinwiddie (VA) junior Chris Hall had never played quarterback before high school. One day his freshman year, a Dinwiddie coach asked him to come out and try out at quarterback. Showing off his arm strength by throwing an 80-yard pass, Hall was quickly moved to quarterback and earned the backup spot to all-everything signal caller Adam Morgan last season. This season, the 6-4, 220-pound prospect has been the leader of the Generals offense and has done well. more
Monday Thoughts: Maryland November 16, 2009 This was the kind of game the Hokies needed. For the first time since the Boston College game on October 10th, the Hokies dominated an opponent, did a lot of good things offensively and defensively, and won without much effort or without ever being threatened. But as the Hokies blew out a floundering opponent on a sloppy field in front of a tiny ESPN360.com audience, two states away the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets finished what they started three games ago and eliminated the Hokies from the ACC Coastal Division race. more
Around the ACC: November 16, 2009 November 16, 2009 With two weeks remaining in the regular season, we are inching closer to a Georgia Tech-Clemson matchup in the ACC Championship Game. The Yellow Jackets clinched the Coastal Division on Saturday as a result of their win over Duke, while Clemson is just one win away from clinching the Atlantic. more
Lewis Reschedules VT Visit November 16, 2009 Bishop Kearney (Rochester, N.Y.) tight end/defensive end Jerome Lewis will not be in Blacksburg this weekend as previously planned, but the 6-4, 230-pound Tech recruit has scheduled an official visit. Lewis, who has yet to visit the school he committed to in May, will be in Blacksburg for the first time ever next month. more
Hokies Rout Terps 36-9 November 14, 2009 Virginia Tech beat up on Maryland on both sides of the ball on Saturday afternoon, earning a 36-9 victory in College Park. The Hokies dominated statistically on offense and defense, and they also got some big plays from punt returner Jayron Hosley. Tech is now 7-3 on the season, with a 4-2 mark in ACC play. Maryland dropped to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the ACC. more
Keys to the Game and Matchups to Watch: Maryland November 13, 2009 The Hokies travel to College Park, MD this week to face a struggling Maryland Terrapins squad, Tech's first opponent this year with a losing record. The 2-7 Terps have lost four straight ACC games after upsetting Coastal Division leader Clemson, and Ralph Friedgen's tenure at Maryland appears to be coming to an end. Virginia Tech will be scoreboard watching, as the Hokies need Duke to knock off Georgia Tech to have a chance at a fourth ACC title. Will VT be focused against a Maryland team that has nothing to lose? more
Catching up with OL Caleb Farris November 12, 2009 Caleb Farris' senior season was a tough one, as the 6-4, 295-pound offensive lineman battled a hamstring injury throughout while Rockbridge County (Lexington, VA) went winless on the year. Up next for the Virginia Tech recruit is a trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for the Offense/Defense All-America Bowl, something he is certainly excited about. more
Football Game Preview: #21 Virginia Tech at Maryland November 11, 2009 Presented by Kent Square Condominiums: Virginia Tech travels north to play Maryland in just their second trip to College Park since joining the ACC in 2004. The Hokies won at Maryland in 2005, and have beaten the Terps twice in Blacksburg. Already having clinched a losing record this year, Maryland will be playing for pride. That makes them a dangerous team. more
ECU Game Analysis: Hokies Grind Out Road Win November 10, 2009 I didn't make it down to Greenville this time, but I'm told that the environment was "interesting" and the home team was jacked. Maybe they were a bit too jacked. ECU put a lot into this game, and they were hoping to elevate the status of their program in front of a national ESPN audience. But it didn't work out that way. While the Hokies went about their business in a grind-it-out fashion, the home team Pirates made too many mistakes at critical times and were never able to get into a good rhythm. In the end, it wasn't a very exciting game and before it was over many fans were looking for somewhere else to be, but after two disappointing losses, the Hokies will gladly take the win and move on to Maryland. more
Farmer to Start Setting Visits November 10, 2009 6-4, 265-pound tight end/defensive end Ethan Farmer, one of the top remaining uncommitted senior prospects in the state of North Carolina, concluded his high school career last week and will now work towards figuring out where he will attend college. The talented prospect boasts double-digit scholarship offers, but there are some programs that have impressed more than others as he figures out where he will visit. more
Monday Thoughts: East Carolina November 9, 2009 I've always wanted to go to an East Carolina game in Greenville, ever since a high school buddy of mine attended ECU and I started paying attention to them. They went 8-3 in our freshman year in 1983, with narrow road losses to Florida, Florida State and Miami. The Virginia Tech and ECU programs were very similar in size and scope until the early 90s, when VT got invited to the Big East and started to pull away. more
DeMatha Notes: VT Requests Film on Junior November 9, 2009 Nationally recognized prep football program DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD) has eight seniors with at least one FBS offer, including three that have committed to major FBS programs. The talent continues to flow in for head coach Bill McGregor, who'll likely have a powerful program for seasons to come. more
Around the ACC: November 9, 2009 November 9, 2009 This deep in the season, we're starting to get a better idea of who will meet in Tampa for the ACC Championship Game. Georgia Tech is just one win away from clinching the Coastal Division, while two teams in the Atlantic Division have what seems to be an insurmountable lead over the other four schools. more
Playoffs on the Line for Leal, Atlantic November 6, 2009 Back-to-back losses have put Atlantic's (Delray Beach, FL) playoff prospects in jeopardy, but hope remains heading into Friday night's contest against Palm Beach Central.

Hokies Run Over Pirates 16-3 November 6, 2009 The Hokies got back to Virginia Tech football on Thursday night, controlling the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball in a 16-3 win at East Carolina. Tech had over 200 yards of total offense at halftime, then spent the fourth quarter running out the clock. Ryan Williams finished with a career high 179 rushing yards, and with their sixth win of the year the Hokies are bowl eligible for the 17th consecutive season. Tech is now 6-3 on the season, and East Carolina dropped to 5-4. more
Keys to the Game and Matchups to Watch: East Carolina November 5, 2009 The Hokies travel to Greenville, NC to face the Pirates of East Carolina tonight in a critical game for both teams. Virginia Tech needs to turn around the two-game losing skid and regain the momentum lost in a once promising season, while ECU needs a big win over a major BCS team to increase its national presence. The Hokies, of course, will also have revenge in mind for last year's opening day loss. So what are the keys in this important Thursday night match-up? more
Senior Season Update: E.L. Smiling November 5, 2009 E.L. Smiling turned in a solid performance last season as a junior, hauling in 24 receptions for 391 yards and five touchdowns on the year. The 6-3, 185-pound Virginia Tech recruit has about 30 receptions in nine games in 2009, but he is also showing well on the defensive side of the ball. more
Offers Roll in for Osbourn Park Junior November 4, 2009 Having earned double-digit written scholarship offers two months into his junior year, Dominique Terrell has already become one of the most highly recruited juniors in the state of Virginia. Osbourn Park's (Manassas, VA) 5-10, 170-pound star athlete is not getting caught up in the recruiting process, something that impresses his head coach. more
Football Game Preview: #23 Virginia Tech at East Carolina November 4, 2009 Presented by Kent Square Condominiums: Virginia Tech is coming off two straight ACC losses, and now they must journey to Greenville to take on a tough ECU team on a Thursday night. This will be the biggest home game of the season for the Pirates. Their fans are excited, and their players have nothing to lose because it's not a conference game. Meanwhile, the Hokies have question marks on both sides of the football, and they might be suffering from some confidence issues. This is a scary game, if you're a Tech fan. more
