Hokies Beat Charleston Southern 75-66

Virginia Tech got a test from a game Charleston Southern team, but managed to pull out a 75-66 victory in the North Charleston Coliseum on Monday night. The win moves the Hokies to 9-4 on the year, as they head into Sunday's ACC opener at Duke.

Hokies Win Second Straight Holiday Festival

Virginia Tech gradually pulled away from St. John's in the second half en route to an 81-67 victory in the championship game of the Aeropostale Holiday Festival in Madison Square Garden. This is the Hokies' second straight Holiday Festival championship, and the win puts them at 8-4 on the season.

Hokies Knock Off Columbia 64-52

Virginia Tech played a sloppy game on Saturday, but managed to come away with a 64-52 win over the Columbia Lions in Madison Square Garden. This was the first game of the Aeropostale Holiday Festival. The Hokies will take on either St. John's or Marist in the championship game on Sunday at 2pm.

Hokies Use Big Runs to Beat Longwood

Virginia Tech got a big double-double from Jeff Allen and defeated Longwood 79-57 in Cassell Coliseum on Sunday afternoon. The win puts the Hokies at 6-4 on the season. They'll take the remainder of the week off before traveling to New York to defend their Aeropostale Holiday Festival championship.

Coming off yet another tough loss, the Hokies will be back in Cassell Coliseum on Sunday to take on the Longwood Lancers. Longwood is a second year Division I program who on paper will not give Tech any trouble. However, they are probably more advanced for a second year program than anyone could reasonably expect.

Another game, another loss on the last possession. Georgia edged Virginia Tech 67-66 in Athens on Tuesday night, sending the Hokies to 5-4 on the season. The four losses have come by a combined eight points.

Big Second Half Sends Hokies Past Navy

Virginia Tech trailed Navy at halftime, but they rallied in the second half to pull out a 79-70 win in the BB&T Classic in Washington, DC on Sunday. A big 17-1 second half run fueled the comeback. With the win, the Hokies are now 5-3 on the season. They have another big road game coming up on Tuesday at Georgia.

Last Second Shot Beats Hokies, Again

Virginia Tech lost another close contest on Monday night, this time falling to #22 Wisconsin 74-72 in Cassell Coliseum. The Hokies tied the game on a three-pointer from A.D. Vassallo with seven seconds remaining, but the Badgers won it on a pull up jumper from point guard Trevon Hughes with 0.9 seconds left. Tech falls to 4-3 on the year with the loss.

There is no such thing as a must-win game this early in the season. However, having missed out on two quality wins against Xavier and Seton Hall in Puerto Rico, the Hokies need to get something done against a good team in their out-of-conference schedule. They'll have their chance on Monday night, when Wisconsin visits Cassell Coliseum in the first game of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

Virginia Tech couldn't hold on to a 14-point first half lead, eventually falling 77-73 to Seton Hall in their last game of the O'Reilly Auto Parts Puerto Rico Tip-off on Sunday night. The loss makes the Hokies 3-2 on the year, and they'll return home on Wednesday night to take on Elon.

Halfcourt Buzzer Beater Downs Tech

Jeff Allen scored what appeared to be the game-winning basket with 1.8 seconds remaining, but Dante Jackson's halfcourt shot at the buzzer banked in, giving Xavier a 63-62 overtime victory over Virginia Tech. The Hokies will return to action on Sunday, when they play the loser of the Memphis-Seton Hall game at 5pm on ESPNU.

Boggs Officially Becomes a Hokie

6-4, 180-pound Hidden Valley (Roanoke, VA) guard Ben Boggs signed a letter of intent last week, officially accepting a scholarship to play for head coach Seth Greenberg. It was a special day for Boggs, who verbally committed to Virginia Tech a little over a year ago.

Mo-Mo Jones an Impact Player

Virginia Tech's fifth recruit of the 2009 recruiting class certainly has experience playing for high profile programs. Lamont "Mo-Mo" Jones has played for Rice High School in New York, American Christian (Aston, PA) and now Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, VA). It is this experience, coupled with ability, of course, that may enable Jones to be an immediate contributor for the Hokies in 2009.

Vassallo Leads Tech Past Fairfield in Puerto Rico

A.D. Vassallo made a big splash in his return to his home, scoring 24 points as Virginia Tech knocked off Fairfield 74-57 in the quarterfinals of the O'Reilly Auto Parts Puerto Rico Tip-Off. The Hokies are now 3-0 on the season, and they'll play Xavier tomorrow.

Reports: Oak Hill Guard Verbals to VT

Multiple sources, including an article on Scout.com, are reporting that Virginia Tech has gained a verbal commitment from 5-11, 180-pound guard Lamont "Mo Mo" Jones, a senior out of Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia. Jones, who is expected to sign in the spring, is Virginia Tech's fifth recruit of the 2009 recruiting class.

Basketball Preview: Puerto Rico Tip-Off

After a 2-0 start in Cassell Coliseum, Virginia Tech is now in San Juan getting ready for the O'Reilly Auto Parts Puerto Rico Tip-Off. The field is very challenging, featuring two Top 25 teams, including last year's national runner-up, Memphis. Traditional basketball schools such as Missouri, Xavier and Seton Hall are also showing up. This has the potential to be one of the best tournaments of the season.

Virginia Tech struggled again offensively, but a late game rally and some clutch free throw shooting by Malcolm Delaney gave the Hokies a 62-57 win over Mount St. Mary's on Monday night. Tech is 2-0 on the season, and they'll now travel to San Juan to take part in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Puerto Rico Tip-off.

Virginia Tech will have another early season challenge on their hands on Monday night when Mount St. Mary's comes to town. The Mountaineers were in the NCAA tournament last season, and they are the preseason pick to win the Northeast Conference again this year.
