Hokies Lose Defensive Battle at Florida State January 16, 2010 Tallahassee, FL - Virginia Tech trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half, nearly rallied to take the lead in the second, but ultimately fell to #25 Florida State 63-58 on Saturday evening. The Hokies are now 13-3 overall, with a 1-2 mark in the ACC. FSU is 14-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Virginia Tech has not won in Tallahassee since 1990. more
VT Eyeing Butler 2011 G Anthony Stitt January 15, 2010 Butler (Matthews, N.C.) guard Anthony Stitt is hoping a big-time junior season equates to major Division 1 offers. On Saturday, the Hokies will play their third ranked opponent in a six-day span, and their second on the road. This time they will be in Tallahassee to take on a Florida State team that needs a big win. The Noles are tall and athletic, and they are coming off two poor defensive games. Highly Ranked Jr. PG Considering Hokies January 14, 2010 Vance (Charlotte, NC) head coach Will Robinson had heard about Marquis Rankin heading into the 2007/2008 season. Rankin, then a rising freshman, didn't disappoint.
"Three days into open gym that year, I told an assistant, 'I think we've got something special,'" Robinson said. "We loved him from day one because of his work ethic. He's coachable and talented." more
Hokies Smash Miami with Huge First Half January 14, 2010 Blacksburg, VA - Virginia Tech used a huge first half to defeat the #23 Miami Hurricanes 81-66 on Wednesday night. The Hokies led by as many as 35 points in the first half, and though the Canes rallied a bit in the final 20 minutes, there was never any danger of Tech losing this game. VT is now 13-2 overall, with a 1-1 mark in the ACC. Miami is 15-2, and they have a 1-2 record in conference play. more

It's still early, and many games have to be played. There appear to be a lot of very even teams throughout the league, so it should be another entertaining year of ACC basketball. Poor Shooting Dooms Tech in Chapel Hill January 10, 2010 Chapel Hill, NC - Virginia Tech could not make a four point halftime lead hold up in a 78-64 loss at #9 UNC on Sunday night. Malcolm Delaney made his return and scored 26 points, including 20 in the first half, but ran out of gas over the final 20 minutes and his teammates couldn't pick up the slack. The Hokies are now 12-2 overall and 0-1 in the ACC. UNC improved to 12-4, and are now 1-0 in conference play. more
Basketball Game Preview: Virginia Tech at #9 UNC January 8, 2010 Presented by Kent Square Condominiums: Virginia Tech will face another significant challenge away from Cassell Coliseum this Sunday night when they begin their ACC slate against North Carolina. The Tar Heels are a much different team this year, but they are still very capable. Checking in with VT 2011 Recruit Rob Brown January 4, 2010 Before 6-4 junior guard Rob Brown stepped onto the court for East Ridge (Clermont, FL) this season, he worked hard on the summer AAU circuit to improve his overall game. Brown was pleased with how the AAU season went and is currently enjoying a solid 2009/2010 season for East Ridge, which is ranked sixth in the Florida Class 6A ranks with a 12-2 overall record. more

Big Win in Mexico January 3, 2010 Who saw this one coming? I sure didn't. Virginia Tech went to Cancun, played their toughest opponent of the season with Malcolm Delaney on the bench with an injury, and pulled off one of the top wins of the Seth Greenberg era. Dorenzo Hudson torched Seton Hall for 41 points, which Hudson estimates is his lifetime high, and the Hokies downed the Hall 103-94 in overtime to go to 12-1 on the season. more
Without Delaney, Gutsy Hokies Beat Seton Hall in Overtime January 3, 2010 Cancun, Mexico - Virginia Tech came up with an unexpected win on Saturday night, beating favored Seton Hall 103-94 in overtime without leading scorer Malcolm Delaney. The Hokies moved to 12-1 on the season with the win in Cancun, continuing their best start since they began the 1995-96 season with a 12-1 record. The Pirates dropped to 9-4 with the loss. They have close losses to #19 Temple, #5 Syracuse, #6 West Virginia (in overtime), and now Virginia Tech. more
Basketball Game Preview: Seton Hall Pirates January 1, 2010 The Hokies will face their second significant challenge of the season when they take on the Seton Hall Pirates in Cancun on Saturday night. Tech failed their only other major test of the season back in November when they lost to Temple 61-50 in Philadelphia. They will most likely have to play this game without leading scorer Malcolm Delaney, who sprained his ankle in Wednesday's win against Longwood. more
Hokies Beat Longwood, but Lose Delaney December 30, 2009 Virginia Tech beat Longwood 85-50 on Wednesday afternoon, but other than the final score, it was not a good day for the Hokies. Malcolm Delaney, the ACC's leading scorer, went down early in the game with a left ankle injury. X-rays were negative, but Delaney appears to have a bad sprain and his status is unknown. He will receive an MRI to determine the extent of the damage. The Hokies improved to 11-1 with the win, but it looks like they'll head into the Seton Hall game without their top scorer and best leader. more
Basketball Game Preview: Longwood December 29, 2009 Virginia Tech has one more chance to improve before finally tipping it off with their first quality opponent since Temple. The Hokies will face Longwood on Wednesday afternoon in Cassell Coliseum, and though the Lancers aren't particularly good, a win is a lot better than a loss. more
Barksdale's Commitment a Sign of Progress December 28, 2009 Virginia Tech received a basketball commitment over the weekend from GW-Danville power forward C.J. Barksdale, and it's a big commitment indeed. This is the type of commitment that followers of the program have been waiting for since ACC expansion, and Barksdale provided it over the weekend. It was unexpected, but it was a nice Christmas surprise nonetheless. more

Top Junior Forward Picks Hokies December 27, 2009 TechSideline.com has learned that George Washington (Danville, VA) junior C.J. Barksdale, a 6-7, 225-pound forward, has verbally committed to Virginia Tech. One of the most highly rated forwards in the 2011 class, Barksdale chose Tech over offers from Alabama, Florida, Maryland and Wake Forest. He also had interest from Kentucky, North Carolina, Villanova and others. more
Hokies Earn Easy Win Over UMBC December 22, 2009 Blacksburg, VA -- The Hokies ran their record to 10-1 after blowing out Maryland-Baltimore County 71-34 on Tuesday night in Cassell Coliseum. The 34 points scored by UMBC was the lowest point total for an opposing team in the history of Cassell Coliseum, which opened in 1961. The last time Tech allowed fewer than 34 points in a game was in a 50-32 win at Fordham in 1997. UMBC dropped to 1-10 with the loss. more
