February 5, 2008
Halfway through their ACC schedule, the Hokies have played their way into NCAA tournament bubble consideration. They'll try to build up their resume even more when they travel to Raleigh to take on NC State on Tuesday night. Beating the Wolfpack on the road would be a huge step for Tech, who has yet to beat a team in the Top 50 of the RPI.

2007-08 Around the ACC: February 4th, 2008
February 4, 2008
We're getting to the stretch run of the ACC schedule. Two teams, Virginia Tech and Florida State, have played half of their ACC games, and the other 10 teams have played seven. Duke and UNC sit at the top of the ACC standings, while Georgia Tech, Florida State and Virginia have basically played their way out of the NCAA tournament picture, with Boston College possibly joining that group soon. Everyone else is squarely in the hunt.

Virginia Tech jumped on Florida State early and never let up, downing the 'Noles 89-80 in a long, foul infested game in Cassell Coliseum on Tuesday night. An early 18-2 run gave the Hokies a huge lead, and FSU could never catch up despite a hot shooting second half. Tech improved to 13-8 overall and 4-3 in the ACC. They are now in fourth place in the conference. With a Boston College loss at UNC on Thursday night, the Hokies would be in sole possession of third place.

Big Win in Beantown Puts Hokies in Good Position
January 28, 2008
From where I sit, Saturday's victory over Boston College was the most important win of the season for the Hokies. It was also the most unexpected, and by grabbing a big win on the road, the Hokies have closed out a tough early portion of the ACC schedule in great shape for the six-week stretch run of the season.

2007-08 Around the ACC: January 28th, 2008
January 28, 2008
We're a little less than halfway through the ACC schedule, and one thing is clear. Duke and UNC are at the top of the conference, and everyone else is fighting for third place. This is how it was when we grew up watching the ACC. This year, there are no Cinderellas. There are about eight teams behind Duke and UNC with a legit shot to finish third. It's going to be a battle down to the final weekend.

The Hokies have an even more daunting task on Saturday than they did on Thursday. They must travel to Boston to take on Boston College in the Conte Forum, less than 48 hours after playing a physical Duke team. Meanwhile, the Eagles have had the week off and should be fresh and ready to go. This is a very tough turnaround for freshmen, especially without Jeff Allen.

In Virginia Tech's first three years in the ACC, the Hokies and Duke have played five ACC games. In that short time, the matchup has turned into a fierce rivalry, full of triumph, heartbreak and drama on both sides. The games have included more than one dagger to the heart, and even a kick in the face. Tonight's game appears to be a colossal mismatch, but you just never know what Duke-VT is going to bring.
